Chemist - Edinburgh

Full-time, permanent position based at our Edinburgh distillery

The North British Distillery requires a diligent and focussed Chemist to join our Laboratory team at our Gorgie-based distillery. An essential role in allowing us to deliver the best possible product, the successful candidate will be participating in the provision of an efficient and accurate laboratory analytical service to all departments within the Company and to external third parties when required.

Reporting to the Laboratory Team Leader, the main responsibilities for this role include:

• Performing all Laboratory activities in line with the necessary Company health and safety requirements, complying with current legislation to maintain a safe working environment for employees.
• Carrying out the analyses in which the jobholder is trained and competent.
• Reporting the results of analyses concisely and accurately.
• Highlighting to the Laboratory Team Leader / Quality Assurance Manager any unexpected or non-conforming results.
• Providing cover in other laboratory areas when required.
• To organise and support the Sensory Evaluation Panel as required.

To succeed in this role, the following knowledge, skills and attributes are required:

• Tertiary qualifications in science plus 2 years’ relevant industry knowledge / experience.
• Good team collaboration skills.
• Excellent documentation and reporting skills.
• Good housekeeping practices.
• Good analytical, communication and reasoning skills.
• Laboratory experience within a chemistry or microbiology based manufacturing industry.
