Cost & Procurement Accountant - West Calder

Permanent, full-time position based at both our Muirhall Warehousing Complex in West Calder and our Edinburgh Distillery.

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a vacancy at North British, with shared responsibilities between our Edinburgh distillery and warehousing site, for the role of Cost & Procurement Accountant. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing cost analysis, advice and support to the business in minimising manufacturing and service delivery costs and maximising income opportunities. In addition, they will be reviewing, establishing and monitoring procurement processes across the business to ensure that best value is achieved in all areas of expenditure.

Reporting to the Finance Director, the key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Working closely with all departments, particularly Production and Warehousing, to provide financial and commercial support and training where required.
  • Identifying and supporting opportunities for improving cost performance throughout the business.
  • Leading and driving cost transformation projects and managing day-to-day co-ordination of issue resolution.
  • Analysing actual manufacturing costs and preparing regular reports comparing budget costs to actual production costs to track performance.
  • Assisting departments with the development of Profit Improvement Plans, measuring actual performance to target and working with local teams to prepare an action plan in response to any underperformance.
  • Inspiring departments to seek and compare new potential suppliers to ensure the best deals are achieved across the Company, using comparative quotes and tenders where appropriate.

 

To succeed in this role, the following qualifications, skills and attributes are required:

  • Qualified member of an accountancy body or holder of similar accreditation (CA, ACCA, CIMA etc.)
  • Excellent IT skills, with demonstrable experience with MS Office, Word and Excel.
  • Experience with Sun Accounts or similar accounting system is desirable
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to input and interpret complex data using IT systems
  • Ability to work dynamically, offering support to all different areas across the business
  • An engaging, proactive and motivated approach
  • Attention to detail and pride in delivering a professional standard of work.
