Electrical & Control Engineering Manager - Edinburgh

We currently have an excellent opportunity for a Electrical and Control Engineering Manager to join our Manufacturing department in 2022. This will be a permanent, full-time role based at our Edinburgh Distillery. 

Overall purpose of Role:

Lead, support and coordinate the electrical team to work together safely and efficiently to deliver the budgeted performance in accordance with an agreed plans, controlling costs to, or better than, budget.

This role involves providing technical guidance for HV and LV site supplies, network management, SCADA performance, PLC and field installation design & reliability whilst ensuring adequate maintenance plans are in place and scheduled to ensure relevant statutory compliance and availability of services.

Background

An experienced and engaging direct line manager with proven success in leading operational teams within a warehousing, FMCG or logistics environment. Able to work flexibly and with energy to motivate reports, whilst also collaborating efficiently with peers as part of the day-to-day management team.

Technical Experience

  • Degree qualified in an Electrical Engineering discipline
  • Familiar with current electrical regulations, codes and safe working practice
  • Proven experience in leading and managing Control Systems, PLC & HMI programming
  • An ability to achieve a site-wide understanding of the manufacturing process
  • Experience of supporting the introduction of new technology

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Solid knowledge of HSE legislation

Leadership

  • Demonstrable experience in leading, developing, managing and motivating teams, as well as direct reports
  • Demonstrable experience in managing third party service providers including contractual and commercial awareness

Behaviours

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely with direct reports and external contractors to ensure that all work is properly planned and coordinated
  • Confident, with the ability to gain trust and respect

Main Responsibilities:

1. Maintain all controls and instrumentation equipment in accordance with Company health and safety requirements, in compliance with current legislation whilst maintaining a safe working environment for employees

2. Responsible for technical documentation and Management of Change

3. Continuously analyse current control philosophies and processes to identify opportunities to develop short, medium and long term plans to deliver the agreed levels of resilience, redundancy, obsolescence and recover management

4. Primary point of contact for manufacturing relating to electrical and controls updates and changes

5. Deliver third party support through service contracts and contractors with managed vendor performance

6. Develop data management to improve accessibility to internal and external control systems

7. Analyse technology, resource requirements, and market demands to plan and assess the feasibility of controls projects

8. Provide project support to the major site initiatives and manage minor projects within your area of accountability and responsibility

9. Ensure all relevant industry standards, ACOPS and best practice is adopted in the processes, procedures and ways of working within the team

10. Line management responsibility for Electricians and Engineers, monitoring progress through annual Performance Focus Reviews, daily target reviews, supporting training development, creating succession plans as appropriate and taking corrective action where required

11. Any other duties that may reasonably be required in line with your contractual role
