Shift Engineer, Mechanical Fitter - Fixed Term Contract - Edinburgh

We have an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Fitter to join our Engineering team in 2022.  This will be on a fixed term basis for approx. 6 months, based at our Edinburgh Distillery.   The successful candidate will be carrying out duties to safe and legally compliant standards, aiding in the efficient operation of the Company. This will be working 12 hours on a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern, alternating between sets of days and nights.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that all engineering equipment and onsite maintenance operations meet the necessary health and safety requirements, complying with current legislation to maintain a safe working environment for employees.
  • Performing day to day engineering maintenance tasks to overhaul, repair and test all mechanical equipment.
  • Development of mechanical Planned Preventive maintenance routines.
  • Troubleshooting any breakdowns or anomalies of plant engineering equipment, taking corrective action where required.
  • Operation of the Company’s Maintenance Management System (MAXIMO), ensuring the robust collection and analysis of availability and operating data on key assets to demonstrate that performance standards are being achieved and identify improvement opportunities.  
  • Assist with the installation of engineering equipment where required by plant improvement or safety requirements.
  • Assist the Production Department with the operation of unmanned areas out with normal working hours.
  • Ensuring that engineering shift cover is always provided
  • Maintaining and adhering to a clear vision of the Company’s business objectives and cultural standards when executing all site engineering developments.
  • Liaising with production and operation departments to provide maintenance services and making recommendations for improvement when required.
  • Maintaining good housekeeping standards across site on a day to day basis.

Requirements for this role includes:   

  • EITB / City & Guilds or equivalent time served in an Engineering Apprenticeship
  • IBD Fundamentals
  • IOSH Working Safely
  • Basic PC Skills: Use of Email, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge and understanding of relevant HSE legislation
  • Trained, competent and experienced in Permit to Work systems, risk assessments and method statements
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Approachable, enthusiastic, proactive, resilient
  • ‘Hands On’ approach to maintenance tasks with the emphasis on maintaining equipment for sustainable use
  • Ability to organise, coordinate and accomplish multiple tasks
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely with external contractors to ensure that all Engineering work is properly planned and coordinated
  • A positive attitude with the desire to expand their skill set
  • Organised with a high level of attention to detail
  • Confident, with the ability to gain trust and respect
