Utilities Engineer - Edinburgh

Permanent, full-time position, based at our Edinburgh Distillery, on Wheatfield Road


The Edinburgh Manufacturing team requires an experienced Utilities Engineer to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of utilities equipment on the Distillery site. Utilities equipment will include cooling towers, the AD plant, and site water, electricity and natural gas supplies.


Reporting to the Site Engineering Manager, the responsibilities for this role include:

  • Ensure that all activities associated with Utilities usage, operation and maintenance are carried out in accordance with Company health and safety requirements, and in compliance with current legislation, maintaining a safe working environment for employees, contractors and visitors 
  • Working effectively in a team, with the capacity to take on different roles, such as facilitator, coach and subject-matter expert. Key internal contacts will include the Site Engineering Manager, Manufacturing Planner, Facilities Engineer, Electricians & Fitters, as well as Production employees. Key external contractors will include third part service providers and suppliers.
  • Expertise deployed in the following areas:

o   Utilities Operations

o   Energy Management

o   Commercial Awareness

o   Budget & Cost Control


To succeed in this role, the following qualifications, skills and attributes are required:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in an operational role in a manufacturing environment
  • Intermediate PC Skills: Formula and graphs in Excel, import photographs in PowerPoint, high standard of document production and report writing.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a customer-focused approach
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to adapt to changing business needs
  • Boiler Operations Management trained and competent in accordance with SAFED/HSE requirements
  • Responsible Person trained and competent in accordance with HSE document Legionnaires’ Disease ACoP (L8)
